Nala Sings

Bini Birdies co-founder Noni Mashologu's debut picture book, Nala Sings, is a lyrical retelling of the beloved African folktale Tselane and the Giant, originally told in Sesotho.

Rooted in nature and rich with rhythm, Nala Sings follows a bright, spirited girl who loves to sing, especially at the river where Upupa birds call and the water flows like a song.

But the river is a forbidden place. The villagers warn of Ledimo, a fearsome ogre seen roaming nearby. One day, guided by curiosity and courage, Nala goes to the river alone, and what unfolds is a story of cleverness, bravery, and the quiet power of finding your voice.

Nala Sings is a tale of resilience, risk, and the joy of being true to oneself.
